Rewarding the Interest Groups at Our Expense

Posted by – 2/2/09

From The Beacon:

Call me old-fashioned, but when I gaze upon all of this booty, I don’t see stimulus; I see rip-off. The Democrats are using the alleged crisis as the pretext for a monumental looting of the taxpayers (present and future) in the service of rewarding—whuda thunk?—the interest groups that put them in power.

Legendary Environmentalist: Most Green Stuff "A Gigantic Scam"

Posted by – 1/24/09

Most of the “green” stuff is verging on a gigantic scam. Carbon trading, with its huge government subsidies, is just what finance and industry wanted. It’s not going to do a damn thing about climate change, but it’ll make a lot of money for a lot of people and postpone the moment of reckoning. I am not against renewable energy, but to spoil all the decent countryside in the UK with wind farms is driving me mad. It’s absolutely unnecessary, and it takes 2500 square kilometres to produce a gigawatt – that’s an awful lot of countryside.

It’s from the same fella whose work on CFCs brought about a global CFC ban. Here’s the whole interview.

Unbelievable

WOW. Is this the hope, change, and unity that we were promised? Since when have the Black Panthers provided polling center “security”?

No worries, it's only illegal

The quote that is cut off in the YouTube video:

“Whenever you specifically ask for a certain amount of money and you’re asked to be entered into any kind of contest, that becomes a lottery, a raffle, and that falls under gambling statutes,” Kevin DuJan said.

The rest of the story is here.

I have a feeling this will only further upset and frustrate those of us who are level-headed and rational and cannot understand the substance-free, mindless adoration shown Obama. It won’t do much to sway those who have already concluded that he is Our Hope and The One Who Will Bring Fundamental Change to America.

Also, seriously, does that right there not frighten you? Yeah, we all agree America could use some improvement, but fundamental change? That’s the stuff of revolutions, and by that I don’t mean the kind that end with improvements.

Letter from a Cuban American

Posted by – 10/20/08

Editor, Times-Dispatch:

Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day and on July 4 I celebrate America’s. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.

On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.

I’ve thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said “Praise the Lord.” And when the young leader said, “I will be for change and I’ll bring you change,” everyone yelled, “Viva Fidel!”

But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner’s guns went silent the people’s guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I’m back to the beginning of my story.

Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?

Would we?

Republicans Fail at ACORN-like Strategy

Posted by – 10/19/08

Here’s a big yawner of a non-story at the LA Times — clearly pushing back against the reports of actual fraud perpetrated by ACORN — in which no one seems to realize that party registration doesn’t require voting for a particular candidate. They received Welcome to the GOP! letters in the mail as a result and have plenty of time to change it before the next primary. Dishonest? Quite. A waste of time on the part of the local GOP? Very much so. Something that will change the outcome of the upcoming election? Not a chance. Now, let’s get back to the real story of voter fraud.

Obama and ACORN, helping shape the coming agenda

Posted by – 10/12/08

Still hungrily eating the Democrat’s talking points? Still ignorant of the fact that Obama is heavily influenced and enjoys working hand in hand with ACORN and other radical “community organizers”? Cue the lights.

In case you missed the quote, Obama said, “Yes, but let me even say before I even get inaugurated, during the transition we’re going to be calling all of you in to help us shape the agenda (emphasis mine). We’re going to be having meetings all across the country with community organizations so that you have input into the agenda for the next presidency of the United States of America.”

For some reason, Obamafans don’t seem to notice just how many people and organizations he throws under the bus. Go ahead, tell me I’m demonizing Obama. I just thought you’d like to know what you’re getting yourself into. Keep the blinders on. I hope you enjoy it.

ACORN Raided

Posted by – 10/8/08

Authorities raided ACORN today yesterday in Vegas, alleging fraud. Saw that one coming. Apparently the Nevada Secretary of State was tipped off when election officials noticed that the Dallas Cowboys seemed to be registered to vote in Nevada.

Despite the recent squawking about ACORN’s nefarious activities from the center to right blogosphere, I’m sure the Dems — who pushed for as some of the bailout’s profits to go to ACORN — didn’t know anything about it.

UPDATE: More ACORN fraud, not surprisingly. This time in Kansas City, and I doubt it’s the last time we’ll hear about it.

Obama's illegal financing is about to get him knocked

Posted by – 10/5/08

The Professor just posted this at Instapundit:

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chief Counsel Sean Cairncross will announce today a complaint that the RNC is filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against the Obama campaign. The complaint will address foreign national and excessive contributions accepted by the Obama campaign that demonstrate it is operating outside of federal campaign finance law.

In case you haven’t been following this story, unreported save for the blogosphere, or are a willfully ignorant Democrat Sheep, Obama’s been accepting loads of donations from people named creative things like “Good Will” whose employer is “Loving” and profession is “You.”  Actually, I’m sure you haven’t heard about it:

CNN recently sent a reporter to Little Diomede Island, the westernmost part of Alaska (2.4 miles from Russia) to determine whether Sarah Palin had ever been there to see Russia with her own eyes. But CNN – and the rest of the media – have been incurious about the Obama campaign’s fund-raising.

In addition to Mr. Good Will, there’s also Mr. Doodad Pro. No, I’m not making this up.

Mr. Doodad Pro made 786 contributions for a total of $19,500. Like Mr. Good Will, Mr. Pro lists his employer as “Loving” and his profession as “You.” Mr. Pro said he is from Nunda, N.Y. Directory assistance found no listing for him either.

Mr. Obama has raised a whopping $223 million in contributions of less than $200. Candidates are not required to disclose the names of those who contribute less than $200, and Mr. Obama has not. John McCain has made his complete donor database available online.

Over $223 million in donations less than $200 each, most of them right at $199. Magically suspicious, don’t you think? Have you ever wondered exactly how the foreign-held Obama fundraisers planned on getting their money to him? Now you know.

Is that shady enough for the Obamaniacs, or will they continue to willfully pull the wool over their own eyes? Just ask yourself: if this were a Republican candidate, what would the media’s reaction be?
