I own all 7 seasons and have watched them through about 5 times now. I've just started the 6th time through and am halfway through the first season where this episode happens. I think this might even be the 3rd total episode ever. Eventually, he gets talked off the ledge and goes for the proportional response. Other elements of Bartlett's conservatism: free trade, capital punishment, and public school education, just to name a few. I love this show. Bartlett is an old economics professor turned NH governor turned President. He's Catholic, smart, and has a moral compass. There are many many elements like these that I'd rather see in a democratic President than what we have now. Kev,
